Audrey Stone

b. 1967, United States

Biography

Audrey Stone (b. 1964, USA) captures the contrasting impressions of tranquility and intensity experienced in nature through painterly illusion. Paint saturated in dense layers permeates the canvas and is subject to a precise planar division–revealing rationality beyond pure emotion. Curves reminiscent of nature and alternating bands of broad and narrow color fields vibrate ceaselessly– drawing the viewer into nature's rhythm and placing the microcosmic human experience within a vast continuum. Stone embraces not only the brilliance of life but also the absence of death. Thus, the majestic composition on canvas becomes a meditative space in which the stillness of both presence and absence coexist.

Stone earned her BFA from Pratt Institute in New York and her MFA from Hunter College. She has held approximately eleven solo exhibitions at venues including Winston Wachter Gallery (Washington, 2022, 2024), Morgan Lehman Gallery (2018, 2020, 2023), and A.I.R Gallery (1988). Additionally, she has been actively involved in group exhibitions at venues including The National Art Clubs in New York (2016), the Columbus Museum in Georgia (2016), Kentler International Drawing Space in Brooklyn (multiple exhibitions), Morgan Lehman Gallery, and Geoffrey Young Gallery, among others.

Stone is currently represented in Korea by ROY Gallery.
