GangYong Park is a lacquer artisan based in Namwon, Jellabuk-do whose practice spans nearly five decades. He was awarded the Grand Prize in crafts at the 2002 World Peace Art Exhibition, the Honorable Mention at the 2009 Japan International Lacquerware Exhibition at Ishikawa, Japan, and the “Myunggong Prize” (Prize for Excellence) at the 2020 Cultural Heritage Administration Award. He has participated in numerous shows abroad such as Changing the laws of Korean Crafts in Milan in 2015, London Collect at Gallery LVS in 2020, and the Thickness of Thought at the Korean Crafts Exhibition in Milan in 2024. Through these numerous shows both domestic and international, Park communicates to the public his blend of tradition and modernity.
